Rap/Hiphop Artists Theresa "T-" Vu & Derek "Direct" Kan of Magnetic North Jammed at Friends of Hue's (FHF) annual Afternoon of Literary Arts
FHF's annual Afternoon of Literary Arts was a unique event, one of a very few rare occasions, where all noted poets, musicians and writers gathered to exhibit a series of performances that are thought-provoking, heart-wrenching and side-splitting in turns. The event is held annually to raise awareness and funds for programs in Vietnam aimed at assisting impoverished people and victims of natural disasters in Thua Thien Hue province of Central Vietnam.
About Magnetic North
Comprised of close friends that share an unhealthy lust for music, Magnetic North is a hip hop duo that strives to find the balance between insightful lyrics and engaging instrumentals. Though they formed in 2003, both Direct and T-minus have been emceeing for over 7 years. Direct, the mastermind behind their instrumentals, favors melodies heavy in acoustic guitar, piano riffs, and a variety of strings. He tops off his production with honest rhymes and a refreshingly crisp delivery. Then there is T-minus, so called for her timebomb like tendencies, who brings to Magnetic North that final touch - a female emcee as comfortable on the mic as any of her male contemporaries. This is my first time hearing Viet hip hop - simply amazing!! The song is deep and meaningful, too. Please post a link on OneViet so readers can listen and buy Magnetichiphop's CD.
