Choreographer Danny Nguyen’s Nguyen Dance Company performs traditional Vietnamese dance with a
modern twist to explore themes of the Asian-American experience, as part of Witness to War: Revisiting
Vietnam in Contemporary Art. Nguyen previews a duet from a new dance, “Red Light,” about women
trafficked in sexual slavery. The performance is followed by a demonstration of traditional Vietnamese dance
by Nguyen’s company. Witness to War is a project of the International Center for the Arts at San

Witness to War: Revisiting Vietnam in Contemporary Art presents the West Coast premiere of filmmaker
Bui Hoai Mai’s documentary, The Rain on the River (Co’n Mu’a & Dong Song) (2005, 54 min), about the
war’s lingering impact on the people of a village bordering North and South Vietnam. The film is screened at
Coppola Theater in the Fine Arts Building at San Francisco State University. Witness to War is a project of
