Celebrate The Birth of Shakyamuni Buddha

LOCAL NONPROFITS TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF SHAKYAMUNI BUDDHA AND TO PRAY FOR PEACE – AT HOME AND AROUND THE WORLD.

SAN JOSE, CA (May 19, 2007) – Lieu Quan Buddhist Cultural Center and International Children Assistance Network (ICAN) will organize Vesak Day to celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha. Buddhism, with its wisdom and compassionate way of life, has been the foundation of most of Asian cultures and has been gaining increasing popularity in the West in recent years.

Event: Vesak Celebration 2007 (Buddhist Year 2551)

Date and Time: Saturday May 19, 2007, from 4pm to 10pm

Location: San Jose City Hall (200 E. Santa Clara St, San Jose, CA 95113)

There will be fun activities for children and families such as animal balloons, lantern workshop, flower arrangement workshop, face painting, music, dances and songs, lion dance etc. Blessed by the presence of many Buddhist Sanghas from different nationalities, the official ceremony will be followed by a candle light vigil to remember and pray for victims of wars, hatred, anger and other natural calamities. Live musical entertainment will be provided, with special appearance of Ái Vân, Quang Tuấn, Gia Huy and young regional rising stars Nhân Ái, bé Thiên Thảo v.v…

“Our goal is to offer everyone a day to pray for peace around the world, a day to find peace within our soul and our family. Vesak Celebration is a chance to learn and reflect on Buddha’s wisdom and compassion, to find peace within oneself, and practice understanding towards others. It is a chance for our community to share and to heal all the differences that had caused us to drift apart, ” said Ven. Thich Phap Chon, Abbot of Lieu Quan Buddhist Cultural Center. “The fun activities help to bring families together, create the opportunities for parents and grandparents to spend quality time with their children, and educate their children about their cultural roots,” added Ivy Vuong, Vice Chair of ICAN.

For more information, please contact Lieu Quan at (408) 272-5765 or ICAN (408) 509-1958 or info@ican2.org
