WORDS IN MOTION: An Evening of Vietnamese American Poetry and Performance

Association for Viet Arts (AVA) proudly presents "Words in Motion: An Evening of Vietnamese American Poetry and Performance". The program will feature an exciting mix of poetry and performance by Bao Phi, Truong Tran, Anh-Hoa Thi Nguyen, and Danny Nguyen. The event will also showcase the work of local high school youth who are participants in a two-day intensive slam poetry workshop taught by nationally renowned, Minneapolis-based writer Bao Phi.

BAO PHI has twice won the Minnesota Grand Poetry Slam and has performed on HBO’s Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry and the National Poetry Slam Individualists Finalist Stage, where he placed 6th overall out of 250 national slam poets. His writings have appeared in such publications as From Both Sides Now, the Def Poetry Jam Anthology, Legacy to Liberation, Screaming Monkeys, and Michigan Quarterly Review.

TRUONG TRAN is a recipient of a 2007 Fund for Poetry Grant and is an award-winning author of four collections of poetry: Placing the Accents (Apogee Press, 1999), The Book Of Perceptions (Kearny Street Workshop, 1999), dust and conscience (Apogee Press, 2002), which received the 2002 Poetry Center Book Prize, and within the margin (Apogee Press, 2004).
He teaches creative writing at San Francisco State University and Mills College.

ANH-HOA THI NGUYEN received her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College, where she was awarded the Mary Merrit Henry Prize in Poetry and the Ardella Mills Literary Composition Prize in Creative Non-Fiction.
Her work has been published in the Asian Pacific American Journal, Nha Magazine, and AS IS: A Collection of Visual and Literary Works by Vietnamese American Artists.

DANNY NGUYEN is a pioneering Vietnamese American modern dancer who received an MFA in Dance, Performance, and Choreography from Mills College.
In 1999, he was recognized by Paul Taylor as one of the seven best creative choreographers in the Bay Area. His Nguyen Dance Company is known for their unique blend of contemporary, modern and traditional Vietnamese dance.

Tickets are $15 General Admission, $10 Students.

Founded in 1991, the Association for Viet Arts (AVA) is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary arts organization serving San Jose and the Bay Area. Saigon Trăng Mờ (The Veiled Moon)

saigon-trang-mo-2007-03.jpgHội sinh viên Việt Nam tại đại học UC Berkeley chân trọng kính mời nhà báo đến tham dự một buỗi Press Conference lúc 7 giờ chiều vào ngày thứ tư 21 tháng 3 tại đại học UC Berkeley.

Mỗi năm hội sinh viên Việt Nam của đại học UC Berkeley tổ chức một đêm văn hoá tại sân khấu Zellerbach. Đêm văn hoá mỗi năm thu hút hơn 1000 người đến thành phố Berkeley. Sự thành công của đêm văn hoá không thể nào có được nếu không có sự ủng hộ và nâng đỡ của cộng đồng người Việt. Chúng em hy vọng đêm văn nghệ này có thể đem lại văn hoa Việt Nam cho cộng đồng, kể cả những khán giả người Mỹ. Chương trình năm nay rất đặc sắc và phong phú vì các sinh vien đã bỏ ra nhiều thời giàn va công sức để thực hiện một đêm văn hoá đầy ý nghĩa.

Chủ đề năm nay là về đời sống của nhà thơ nổi danh Hàn Mạc Tử. Vở kịch này gồm có ca hát, thời trang, và điệu múa truyền thông và hiện đại. Đêm văn hoá năm nay sẽ tổ chức vào ngày thứ bảy 21 tháng 4 lúc 5 giờ chiều tại sân khấu Zellerbach.

"To Kids From Kids"

Please join Aid To Children Without Parents' (ACWP) 2nd Annual Charity Musical Event, "To Kids From Kids", to be held at Montgomery Theater, 271 S. Market St, San Jose, CA 95113 (next to San Jose Tech Museum) on January 27,2007.

"To Kids From Kids " is an annual musical event where young local performers collaborate to bring hope to the disadvantaged children in Vietnam. The concert includes violinists, piano ensembles, traditional Vietnamese instruments, folkloric dances and songs. This year, all proceeds will go toward building schools in Dong Thap , Vietnam where children are at high risk of being trafficked.

We are looking for young talents in the Bay Area. No compensation will be made to any participant in this event. If selected, you will have a chance to perform live for an audience of 500 people, and to make a difference in someone's life. Please join ACWP to support a good cause!
